Welcome to “Swing and Hope”.
This blog is all about my love for golf and my journey towards a career in golf media. Here, you will find honest reviews of golf gear, courses, stories from my own adventures on the green, and my thoughts on what’s happening in pro and elite amateur golf.
Whether you’re a newbie or a seasoned golfer, there’s something here for you. Let’s explore the world of golf together and share the excitement of the game.
Why “Swing and Hope”?
Quite frankly, that’s the stage in which my golf game is at- I swing and hope for the best. It’s a sport that I find to be more tough mentally than it is physically, half the battle seems to be what goes on inside your head. One of the most influential figures in the history of the sport, Bobby Jones once said;
“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life. You get bad breaks from good shots, you get good breaks from bad shots, but you have to play the ball where it lies.”
I started playing around 15/ 16 years old and like most, got the bug ever since. I began my golfing journey at Sherdons Golf Centre, and regularly visit Cleeve Hill Golf Club. I like to visit and play as many different courses as possible, I’ve been fortunate enough to have played at Gloucester, Cirencester and Broadway Golf Club since taking up golf.
My professional journey
I have also completed a Masters in Sports Journalism from Liverpool John Moores University with a Gold Standard NCTJ Diploma. From this, I was able to attend last year’s Amateur Championship, where I interviewed eventual winner Christo Lamprecht.
For my final project at university, I produced a documentary on data that showed the rising popularity of golf in the UK.
You can check out my full documentary on the rising number of people taking up golf here. Beyond the scorecard; the thriving world of amateur golf.
I was also fortunate to attend the 121st Open Championship at Royal Liverpool where I was able to spend time in the media centre working as a media assistant for the R&A.
I assisted with all the press conferences during the tournament, I helped collect news articles and I assisted players attending the mix zone for their post-round interviews.
Thank you for visiting “Swing and Hope.” I look forward to sharing my love of golf with you and hearing your stories as well. Let’s tee off on this exciting journey together.
